My Pantry

Fats & Oils

Fats & Oils

  • Organic, Naturally Refined, Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil from Tropical Traditions. This has zero coconut flavor. On their website, Tropical Traditions details the process they use called “physical refining,” which does not use any chemicals.
  • Gold Label, Virgin, Unrefined Coconut Oil from Tropical Traditions. This is the best coconut oil to use, however it does have a strong coconut flavor. In addition to cooking, I use this for lotion, cuticle cream, body scrub, and so much more.
  • Grass-Fed, Organic Ghee by Pure Indian Foods. For those who are not familiar with Ghee – it is clarified butter, which means the water and milk solids (mostly proteins) are boiled off. It is a dairy product, but is tolerated well by many people who have dairy intolerances due to the clarifying process.
  • Naturally Refined, Expeller-Pressed Avocado Oil from Whole Foods. This has a pretty neutral flavor. I use it in my Misto Sprayer to grease pans. More information about expeller-pressed, refined avocado oil can be found here.
  • Organic, Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Whole Foods. Make sure to store your olive oil in a cool, dark pantry – not by the stove. It is best to use olive oil for dressings, not heat cooking.
  • I purchased my Misto Sprayer through Amazon. It does not have the best reviews, but I love it and have had no problems.
  • Uses: I do nearly all heat cooking with ghee or coconut oil. They can be used interchangeably depending on your taste preference. I use avocado oil in my Misto for greasing pans. I use extra virgin olive oil for dressings and other no heat cooking.
Pantry Condiments 2

Condiments

  •  Trader Joe’s Organic Ketchup This ketchup does contain sugar, but it is less than any other brand (that uses real sugar) I have seen.
  • Annie’s Organic Mustards I buy this at Whole Foods.
  • Mustard Meaux Moutarde I have been eating this stone ground mustard my entire life. I cannot find it at any local grocery store anymore, but Amazon carries it.
pantry tomatoes 1

Tomato Products

  • Bionaturae strained (crushed tomatoes) and tomato paste (not pictured) are available at many grocery stores or online. This is my go to brand since I only use tomato products from jars (not cans).
  • Rao’s Homemade Tomato Sauce is the most delicious tomato sauce I have ever had. It even rivals most homemade sauces. I often make my own sauce, but always keep this in the pantry. Available at many grocery stores.
Pantries Misc

Miscellaneous Items

  • Coconut Aminos are the paleo version of soy sauce. Just use this in any recipe instead of soy sauce.
  • Artichoke Hearts from Whole Foods. There is nothing particularly special about this brand except it is the only one I can find in a jar and not packed in oil. This pesto is a staple in my fridge so I always keep artichoke hearts on hand.
  • Kalamata Olives I buy this brand at Whole Foods because it is organic and in a jar.
  • Almond Butter Any brand is fine – just make sure the only ingredient is almonds.
  • Eden Wasabi Powder Available at many grocery stores and websites (including Amazon and the Eden organics website). Sushi is one of my favorite foods and I make it at home all the time. This wasabi is just as good as any I have had in a sushi restaurant. I also love adding it to cauliflower rice, or anything really, for some extra flavor.
  • Wilde Planet Wild Sardines These are an acquired taste, which I have not yet acquired, but I am working on it because they are so good for you. I eat them in lettuce wraps with dijon and fresh lemon juice.
pantry misc 1

Miscellaneous Items

  • Raw, Organic Almonds are always stocked in my pantry because I make so much almond milk and almond flour. I buy these from many different locations. FYI truly raw almonds are no longer sold in North America. They are all pasteurized. The ones I buy are typically organic and the only ingredient is “Organic Steam Pasteurized Almonds.”
  • Raw Sauerkraut available at many farmer’s markets, grocery stores, or online. Fermented foods are so good for your gut health – read all about it here.
  • Organic Pumpkin from Whole Foods.
  • Organic Unsweetened Shredded Coconut available at many grocery stores.
Grass-Fed Gelatin

Grass-Fed Gelatin

  • Read all about the benefits of grass fed gelatin here. The cold water soluble (green) one is completely odorless and tasteless and can be used in any liquid, while the red one is great for gummies. I buy both on Amazon.
Miscellaneous Liquids

Miscellaneous Liquids

  • GTs Kombucha from Whole Foods & many other grocery stores. What is Kombucha and why should I be drinking it? Answer here. There are many different brands and flavors available, but this one is my favorite. Not really a pantry item (it needs to be refrigerated) but a staple in my diet that I thought was worth mentioning here.
  • Bragg’s Organic Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar can be found at most grocery stores. I start each day with a cup of room temperature water, lemon juice, and a tablespoon of this. Read about the nutritional benefits, as well as all the other uses of this miracle product here.
  • Organic, Lemon Oil I add this to my water daily. Check out all the benefits of it here. There is nothing special about this particular brand except that it is organic and a store a few blocks from me carries it.
Salt

Salt

  • These are the only two salts I use, which I alternate between. Redmond’s Real Salt is available at many grocery stores and I buy the himalayan salt on Amazon.
Flours

Flours

  • Almond Flour Available at most grocery stores, but it can be really expensive. Amazon has a much more affordable (5 pound) version, but make sure you have room to store it as the bag is huge and needs to be refrigerated after opening. If you make your own almond milk don’t forget to save the pulp and make almond flour!
  • Coconut Flour also available from many grocery stores, but (a 5 pound bag) can be found on Amazon for a cheaper price. Make sure you have room to store it as the bag is huge and needs to be refrigerated after opening. I have also heard Trader Joe’s has a great deal on coconut flour.
  • Arrowroot Flour and Tapioca Flour can be used interchangeably and are both available at most grocery stores.

Sweeteners

Sweeteners

  • These are the only sweeteners you will find on my site and all can be bought at most grocery stores. Pure Grade B Maple SyrupRaw Local Honey, and SweetLeaf Stevia. If you use a different stevia just make sure the only ingredient is stevia leaf extract. If you do not eat stevia you can substitute maple syrup or honey in any recipe. I use it occasionally.
pantry chocolate 1

Chocolate

  • Raw, Organic Cacao Nibs from Whole Foods. Great for cookies, brownies, or as a topping to anything. Pure cacao has a very bitter taste and will need sweetener added. See note below about the benefits of cacao and my cacao warning.
  • Theo Organic Fair Trade 85% Dark Chocolate from Whole Foods is my go to chocolate for a special treat.
  • Raw, Organic Cacao Powder from Whole Foods and available on Amazon. Wonderful in baked goods, coffee, chocolate almond milk, or smoothies. Raw cacao is very rich in antioxidants and magnesium, and also contains some calcium and iron. Important note about Raw Cacao: If you are sensitive to caffeine be very careful with this. It contains Theobromine (a sister molecule to caffeine), which affects many people the same way that caffeine does. I do not drink any caffeine because it affects me greatly and if I consume too much any cacao I feel the same effects. A great alternative to Cacao is Carob powder.
  • Equal Exchange 70% Chocolate Chips from Whole Foods. Great for baking when you want something sweet as it does contain added cane sugar (which is not technically paleo).
Pantry Iodine

Natural Iodine Sources

  • These are all great options for anyone looking to increase their consumption of iodine via natural sources. All three available on Amazon.
Paleoish Treats

Paleoish Treats

  • Turbana Plantain Chips These are not paleo because they contain vegetable oil, but are good in a pinch. This is my favorite brand because they are super thin and crispy. I often bring a bag of these to parties so I will have at least one thing to eat & they easily fit in my purse.
  • Hail Merry Macaroons These. Are. Amazing. The perfect bite sized treat. They have many flavors – my favorites are Strawberry and Salted Caramel.
Vitamins

Vitamins

  • Garden of Life Women’s Multivitamin is a very high quality multivitamin. I like this particular one because 1 serving equals 4 capsules, so I can take it throughout the day, which allows my body to better absorb all the vitamins and minerals. I buy it on Amazon.
  • The only other supplement I take is Green Pasture Fermented Cod Liver Oil Butter Blend (Cinnamon Flavor). Be careful if you are buying a cod liver oil from a different brand, as they are all very different. Great information about the wonders of this supplement can be found here. I buy it online here.
